Standing Firm

What does “standing firm” mean? It means standing your ground, refusing to abandon your beliefs, take a firm stand, and refuse to budge or be moved… I could go on with the meanings but I trust you get the picture. It is a fairly straight forward statement. In times of trouble it can be difficult to stand your ground. Fear and anxiety knock on your door and threaten to derail your faith. Challenges can seem so HUGE that you don’t know how you are going to face them. Stepping out in faith or standing in faith at this point seems impossible, feels like a waste of time. You feel like giving up, helpless even. But I urge you not to lose your faith. Exodus 14:13 “Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.” Today may not be TODAY, but your today is coming! Your deliverance is coming! Refuse to be shaken out of your faith…stand firm! Do not lose faith!

1 Corinthians 16:13 Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong.

Random Thoughts…. Disappointment

My posts always start out with almost the same statement..it’s been a while since I wrote something! Nothing different about today, its been a while since I wrote. I promised myself I would write once a week but so far I haven’t stuck to that promise. Resolutions/Goals huh!! I hope to do better.

My post today is about disappointment. How do you deal with it? You have been let down by people or circumstances..how do you move on? Do you pretend it never happened? Do you make a note in your diary to never go down that road again? How did you get on that road in the first place? Maybe you placed too much trust in that person or object. Sometimes I do that. I get my hopes up high or I trust in people too much and I end up disappointed and frustrated. But what if it’s family? The people you care about the most. All I can say is it hurts! But I have to move on right. I have to get up on my feet, forgive, learn from it and move on! That’s the only way to go. I’m too young to have gray hairs!!

Hebrews 13:1-2 ASV
Let love of the brethren continue. Forget not to show love unto strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Psalm 42:11 ASV
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.

Don’t just talk about it, be about it!!

It’s the new year and with it comes resolutions, promises usually of change to self and others. It’s the time we take out our notebooks and start writing down stuff we want to change and do differently.

I am guilty of making resolutions/promises which I break before the year is out. This year I am determined to do things differently. Here is how I’m going to do things this year :

1. Write down reasonable resolutions.

2. Find accountability partners.

3. Make them aware of my resolutions.

4. Give my accountability partners permission to challenge me when I break my resolutions.

Maybe I should call them goals? Whatever they are, I am determined to stick to them this new year. I’m done being all talk and no action!

Ecclesiastes 11:4 NKJV He who observes the wind will not sow, And he who regards the clouds will not reap.

Proverbs 14:23 NKJV In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty.

As the song goes, don’t just talk about it, be about it!!

Happy new year!! 🎉🎊

Random Thoughts…. Get Up!!

Watching my daughter grow up every day is a rewarding and joyous experience. It seems everyday she has something new going on that always amazes me. The joys of motherhood! 😁.

As my daughter was learning to stand and walk I must have aged a thousand years! :D. I felt very proud of her when she learnt to stand and when she took her first steps. But the road to those milestones wasn’t smooth! I don’t know how many times she fell and hurt herself. Just this morning she fell and hit her head…so many tears! It isn’t easy to watch your baby go through this, you just want to protect them from the pain. Fortunately, the tears shed are only for a moment. After falling, hurting herself, crying, she gets up and starts again!

She wouldn’t, infact we all wouldn’t be able to stand and walk by ourselves if we hadn’t pushed on as babies. So it is in our adult lives. Things or people or situations we find ourselves in knock us down. We’re hurt, we cry, we want to give up… but let’s not give in.

Get up when you fall or are knocked down. Keep pushing on! You are stronger than you think! You are stronger than what people think.

Proverbs 24:16 NKJV

For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.

I Corinthians 16:13 NKJV

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.

Random Thoughts…. Anger

Controlling our emotions can be very challenging. Especially anger! 😠! When things don’t go our way or when someone offends us it’s very easy to get angry. You feel the emotion building up in the pit of your stomach, and you feel it moving up to your chest, your head! It feels like the temperature has suddenly gone up. Depending on who you are, sweat beads start building on your forehead, your armpits feel wet….or angry words start pouring out of your mouth!

I for one was prone to temper tantrums!  I found it hard to control my temper. The things I described above used to happen to me…but most times I wouldn’t verbally express my anger! I just stewed and let it kill me inside.

Not anymore!!

Having a baby in the house teaches you a lot…or shall I say having a toddler! :D. I have learnt to control my temper and to try and understand the situation first. As time passes I have learnt to smile or laugh in place of anger. I find myself laughing with my daughter when she does things that frustrate me.

I’m not there yet…every day I get better.

Let’s be slow to anger like our Father in Heaven. 🙂

Ecclesiastes 7:9 NLT Control your temper, for anger labels you a fool.

Proverbs 16:32 KJV He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

Psalms 145:8 KJV The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

Random Thoughts….Get Over It!

I never knew having a baby would be like this! 😀 What do I mean? I mean I never knew I would be learning stuff from her, as much as she’s learning stuff from me!

When my daughter gets upset she throws a mini tantrum or she cries. This usually happens when we do something that she’s not happy with, when we stop her from doing what she wants, when we take a toy away or when we take her out of the bath. She even cries sometimes when we want to change her diaper but she still wants to play. And when I say cry I mean she cries a lot! Sometimes when I delay a bit on feeding her she wants to bite me! 😀 But thankfully she doesn’t stay upset that long. She “forgives and forgets” after a few minutes and it’ll be all laughs and giggles again.

So what if us as adults responded the same way to all offences that come our way. Not the crying part, the forgiving and forgetting part. Unfortunately we like to hold onto offences and grudges. We keep them in a “compartment” in our hearts and every now and then we like to take them out and ponder over them, rant and rave, plot revenge where possible. Imagine if we just let them go like children do. Imagine how much happier we would be. Imagine how much this world would be a better place.

Lord, help me to forgive and forget where I have been wronged. Help me to let go of past hurts, grudges and offences.

Matthew 18:4 KJV Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 6:14-15 KJV For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:    But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Random Thoughts…Life Again

Life is a process of living, it always moves forward and never backward! It is full of ups and downs, joy and sorrow! It has a beginning and an end… and a “middle” if I can say that. While living out the “middle”, we have to prepare for the end and what comes after the end.

Sometimes I feel we spend most of our lives living in the “middle” and forget to prepare for the end. Prosperity gospels have not done much to aid our preparations. We are so caught up trying to prosper ie make lots and lots of money, such that we forget about the most important things in life. We spend most of our time trying to fit in and be comfortable in our environment. Trying to be like the Jones’…The Bible talks about seeking first the Kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto us. So why are we putting financial prosperity ahead of the Kingdom of God? We seek first earthly things and give God what is left of our time, if any is left at all. How much time do we spend praising and worshipping God, being grateful for the things we have and how far He has brought us? Or are we just caught up in requests and complaints alone?

I am not perfect and I have often caught myself in a cycle of “me” and not God. I have caught myself in a series of complaints and lack of faith. I have caught myself losing sight of the end. I don’t want to be so lost in the ways of this world such that I lose my place in the Kingdom of God.
God’s Word says He opens up doors that no man can shut and shuts doors that no man can open. Why are we trying to do the opening and shutting for Him? Let’s trust God to work in our lives for our good, while we earnestly seek His Kingdom.

What is your number one goal in life?
